Living in Australia
Living in Australia is perhaps one of the most rewarding in terms of social customs, values, laws, freedoms and the social structure itself.
Australia itself is probably one of the only naturally beautiful countries in the world. It has pristine beaches, crystal blue waters, rainforests and the longest coral reef in the world.
Culturally speaking, Australia is perhaps one of the only countries that promotes the rich and diverse tapestries of nationalities, including their traditions, legends, myths and folklore with over 200 different languages and dialects spoken within 45 different indigenous languages.
Canberra is Australia’s capital territory and it seats the Federal Parliament and is home to Australia’s national institutions; but, is one of the coolest cities within Australia since it sits approximately 150 kilometers north of the famed Australian snowfields.
One of the endearing qualities of Australia in general is the tolerance of many different people and cultures represented in each of the six different Australian states. But, there are some cultural rules that are generally followed including the proper greeting process of a handshake and a consistent looking into each other’s eyes when speaking to one another. There are other common and courteous greetings include addressing new acquaintances using their title and family name.
There is also the need to look at how you and your family will be supported during the first two years in Australia. The cost of living is one of the highest compared to other countries and there is a two-year waiting period for social security and in some cases a person cannot be eligible for Age and Disability pensions until you have lived as a permanent resident visa holder for at least 10 years.
Therefore, it is important to carefully consider all aspects of the move to Australia and the necessary living requirements.
